WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU INTERIOR DESIGNERS AND INTERIOR DECORATORS?

-IDG HOMEZ Noida

People often misunderstand interior designing and take it the same as interior decorating. They actually get confused in choosing between the services of an interior designer and an interior decorator, when they need professional help for their own home projects. Though there are a lot of similarities between interior designing and interior decorating still they have a lot of differences between them making it impossible to use them interchangeably.
As per IDG homez Noida, interior designing is defined as the science and art of creating functional spaces in a building as per people’s behavior, whereas interior decorating is all about beautifying a space with beautiful and fashionable things.
To make it more clear and understandable IDG homez Noida have mentioned major differences between interior designers and interior decorators which are as follows-

1.    Schooling and credentials-

To be a professional interior designer you need professional schooling and credentials. It requires a formal training in drawing, space planning, architecture, furniture design, the study of fabric and color and CAD (Computer Aided Design) etc. IDG HOMEZ Noida considers apprentice under an established professional interior designer as an add-on. On the other hand, interior decorators don’t require any formal training or credentials. Though now there are many institutes offering courses and programs for interior decoration too. Interior decorators are just involved with the decoration part and are generally not involved in the structural planning and renovation part. Interior decorators just need to have good knowledge of latest interior decoration trends and fashion.

2.    Difference in work-

Interior designing is not just about the look of the room but more about the function and convenience of the space. It is more about planning, designing and renovating. It gives more importance to functionality and architecture than decorating. They are involved from the initial drawing of the floor plan to the last of decoration. The decoration is only 10% of their work but still, they need to have a good eye for it because in the end, space should look good. Interior decorators, on the other hand, help people in choosing a particular style of decor, color scheme, furniture and, accessories. They help in sprucing up space. They are into adorning or furnishing of a space with beautiful things. Interior decorator is into painting walls, hanging wallpaper, installing window treatments, selecting and placing furniture and accessorizing the room with throw rugs, throw pillows, wall art, and lamps. They are not involved with the structural changes of the layout.

3.    Coordination with other professionals-

Interior designers have to closely work with the contractors and architects to fulfill the requirement and desires of the client. Interior decorators are generally not required to work with architects or contractors. They mostly coordinate with upholsterers, furniture makers, and other professionals.
While interior designers give importance to aspects like sound, light and other structural considerations, the interior decorator is more into giving style and personality to space as per the resident. Interior designers are hired when the project requires some structural changes along with decorating. In the end, an interior designer can do the work of an interior decorator but an interior decorator cannot do the designing part of the interior designer.
